Heating Options for Your Pool

The debate for pool heaters can get kind of heated! Here’s what they’re saying…

  • A gas pool heater may heat up your swimming pool water quickly, but it is not a real eco-friendly or cost-effective option. So solar is an interesting choice to consider.
  • There are a few solar pool heating options, including solar pool covers. Solar pool covers are cost-effective, but their efficiency depends on the size of your pool (the amount of water you are trying to heat) and, of course, the amount of sunlight.
  • Solar domes are an economical pool heating option for smaller pools.
  • Liquid solar covers – yep, you heard right – are poured into your pool to keep heat from escaping. These are an inexpensive and easy pool heating option, but not too effective when weather conditions are windy or if your pool is used often.
  • Solar rings are a floating pool heating option made up of two layers measuring about five feet in diameter. The upper layer draws in heat, while the lower layer transfers it to your pool water. These are also inexpensive, but can take a long time to heat up your pool.
  • The most popular pool heating option is an electric heat pump which may have a higher initial cost, but is pretty eco-friendly and economical. This pool heating option feeds off of the ambient air, so it doesn’t work well when it is really cold out. The good news is that, aside from the fact that you may not want to swim then, we don’t have too much of that here in Florida!
