Many people are not aware that they have a choice between a salt water system and a chlorine pool. What you find mostly in community pools is chlorinated water as they have large quantities of bodies in the water and this is the system that will work best. Chlorine is a strong chemical that will kill all pathogens in the water and when you get get different people in the water it is smart to keep the pool germ free.

Now let’s take a closer look at the differences between the two:

Chlorine Pools – Using this system will be the safest as far as getting rid of bacteria in your swimming pool.  There are two ways to add chlorine to your pool. One is to use chlorine tablets or packets and simply add it to your filtering system. The next way is to have a small tank that will deliver chlorine in precise amounts in the water directly at specific intervals. 

Salt water Pools – also use a chlorinator, but a different version that includes an electrolysis device that extracts chlorine gas from salt. The gas is  then mixed with a small amount of pool water and then sent back into the pool, where it does its job and then slowly dissipates. Only salt needs to be purchased with a salt chlorinator, since the devices creates its own chlorine.

There are many factors to consider when it comes to choosing a system that works for you. You should take into account that the chlorinated systems may be cost effective for set up and maintenance. The salt water system is a little pricier but excellent for people that have sensitive skin and do no like the scent of chlorine.
